
Omid Habibi is the Chief Executive Officer of LAMEN Microfinance Institution (LAMEN MFI), bringing over 17 years of executive leadership and professional experience in banking, Islamic microfinance, operations management, risk management, corporate governance, and institutional development. Throughout his career, Mr. Habibi has held senior leadership positions with leading financial institutions and international organizations, including LAMEN Microfinance Institution, Hassel Microfinance Institution, Mutahid Microfinance Institution, FINCA Afghanistan, Afghanistan International Bank (AIB), UNDP, and UN-Habitat. His extensive experience spans executive management, strategic planning, operational excellence, Shariah-compliant financing, credit administration, recovery management, regulatory compliance, and organizational transformation.
As CEO, Mr. Habibi leads LAMEN MFI's strategic vision, driving sustainable growth while ensuring the highest standards of governance, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance. Under his leadership , the institution has strengthened its operational framework, expanded its financing portfolio, modernized its digital systems, enhanced risk management practices, and improved institutional performance to better serve entrepreneurs, micro and small businesses, and underserved communities across Afghanistan.
Mr. Habibi is a strong advocate of ethical leadership, innovation, and financial inclusion. Before assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Habibi served as Chief Operating Officer of LAMEN MFI, where he played a key role in strengthening operational systems, improving service delivery, and supporting the institution's expansion. His earlier leadership positions in commercial banking and microfinance provided extensive expertise in credit management, operations, legal recovery, compliance, and institutional risk management.
Mr. Habibi holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). He has also completed numerous professional certifications in banking leadership, Islamic finance, risk management, AML/CFT, IFRS, human resource management, and customer relationship management, reflecting his commitment to continuous professional development.
As Chief Executive Officer, his vision is to position LAMEN Microfinance Institution as one of Afghanistan's most trusted and innovative Shariah-compliant financial institutions by expanding financial inclusion, embracing digital transformation, strengthening governance, and delivering sustainable value to customers, employees, shareholders, and development partners.
